Yes, two different. Culture sharing the arts of music. A international language is music.
Yes. Rest in peace.Topol
I got it. I am about as far removed for Jewishness as I can be. Scotch-Irish ancestors. Born and raised in Tejas. That's Texas for the uninformed. I adore this movie. I have never been a big musical fan. This movie changed my mind. I not only consider it the greatest musical, but one of the greatest movies of all time. I understood Tevia's conflict. That conflict and the way he handled it was beautiful. Not perfect. Danila in the end had hope that her Father would come around. I like to think he did.
2:27-2:34, 4:59-5:06 When I was a little kid whenever that part will come up, I used to do that dance for my mom because she really loved it and she thought it was very funny. Now that I’m older, doing that dance makes me feel very silly that I find it very embarrassing doing it. In conversation, my mom would tell her brothers, sisters and family friends that she found it funny when I used to do the dance when I was little and i can’t help but feel really silly and embarrassed by it. 😅
1:17 I won’t be late! I WON’T BE LATE!! IF YOU EVER STOP TALKING, I WONT BE LATE!!! 😂😂😂 That was honestly the funniest line in the movie for me personally! It goes to show u that Tevye can be really funny at times.
A pleasantly egalitarian prayer.
Reb Tevye is not wearing a prayer shawl!
You can tell that Tevye and Golde really mean every word of this prayer in regards to their daughters!
Golde is very efficient!
musically, Fiddler on the Roof is completely stunning.
Topol was brilliant!
I want to serve a God that has a sense of wit, love of humor, and doesn’t take themself so seriously. If I’m made in their image, and they weren’t made in some other image, it just seems right. If we’re to fear an all power God as his servants or ants - it’s not logical that he’d push us to war and hate and judgement.
One of best music pieces ever written by one of the best singers. Magnificent!
When my daughter was growing up I learned never to look her in the eyes when I was trying to be assertive with her. Every time I see this scene I think of that.
I'll never get over how masterful this film is. This song is so well-shot, the timing and score is impecable.
Tevye is a bad father.
why?
Because it's a bad match. Also, he broke his agreement with Lazar wolf. If he hadn't Zeitel would be in America instead of doing the death march across the tundra.
What do you think of this idea? We invite every Anti-Semite to join both Jews and non-Jews to watch this great film together? TRADITION!!! As a non-Jew I felt I became one in 1978 when I volunteered to be in our production during my first year of teaching at Russell Sage College, a Women's College in Troy, NY. Our Tevye was Art Ginsberg, a great man!
Live in peace ✌️ may you live a thousand 🙏 Reason to rejoice ❤
The emerging "Lost" Ten Tribes of Israel are answering the call to return So when we feel drawn to this, our heart is telling us we are one of them.
ugh he was acting DOWNNNNN
Topol, what an amazing actor and humanitarian. Rest in peace beautiful man.
Perchik helped me understand when I was young what I wanted in a husband. I couldn't understand the appeal of a man like that. He seems undependable and unaffectionate. When Hodel has to say "and affection?", that makes me shiver. On the other hand...Motel was always so affectionate and foundational, even if he didn't seem to have the same strength as Perchik. When he says "Even a poor tailor is untitled to some happiness! I promise you Reb Tevye, your daughter will not starve!". Such a romantic and dependable line. They were definitely very formative characters for me.
The play with Zero Mostel as Tevia was way better.
I have yet to see this movie in its entirety. Paul Michael Glaser is Perchik here and then later (about 10 years ago) did a FOTR tour of the UK playing Tevye. Apparently, he did very well.
Girls are people!! lol love this scene!
i have tears of happiness in my eyes of this scene… why cant we be like that?
Even a poor tailor is entitled to some happiness! It caused me goosebumps! GREAT MOVIE with GREAT ACTORS and GREAT STORY.
Thanks Norman Jewison...RIP
I once heard a quote about musical theater that went something like this: "When people can no longer speak, they sing. And when they can no longer sing, they dance." This scene is an iconic example.
🧿👄🧿
Its just... beautiful.
This scene so rocks. Mazaltav!
I love the urgency to begin. It really shows their dedication to serving God at his appointed time. Such an incredibly beautiful song.

Love this movie.
Tevye is not afraid to ask Lazar for a refill on his drink, and Lazar is glad to oblige, especially if Tevye agrees to a match.

I do not know if Perchik waving a Red flag to promote Communism in Kiev was a model for historical success about 120 years later. How many class enemies were thrown into vats of acid between 1918 and 1990 in Ukraine?
His daughter would never want for anything. I don't blame him.

I love the interactions in this scene, because Perchik is meant to represent new ideas while Mendel (the rabbi's son) represents tradition. In Matchmaker, Hodel sings "For Papa, make him a scholar", which is something both men are. She's stated to have interest in Mendel also, and in my opinion that interest isn't entirely one-sided, given how Mendel hangs around Tevye even after he's gotten his milk and the other men have left. He'd have more choice about his marriage as the rabbi's son, and at Tzeitel and Motel's wedding, he's shocked by the idea of Hodel breaking tradition to dance with Perchik. Tevye, however, tells him to go away and offers to let Perchik stay with them for the summer, effectively sealing Hodel's fate by introducing her to the man she'll end up marrying.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
נהדר מקסים נפלא
A lot of Christian homes need family sabbath. Each part is a prayer for every role and member of the home.
6:30 "Tradition!" ... *shrug* 😂

"The rich are criminals. Someday their wealth will be ours." So then you'll be rich. Criminal. But still, how do you propose to make this switch in status? You claim to want to make your own wealth. Honestly. You claime that what you will have is THEIR wealth. That sounds like stealing. Which is criminal. "Well, they got their wealth criminally. So why shouldn't I?" So you condem and condone criminality? Play got "generic leftist git" pretty right.
Avarice
His face when she asked if his agreement mattered more than her showed he immediately knew she mattered more. He didn’t take long to agree not to force her. Everytime I see this movie I love seeing how much he loves his daughters. To him, their happiness matters most.
